Is it normal to have lower back pain after a tetanus or meningitis shot?
At the doctor yesterday they gave me two vaccines. One was lower back pain symptoms of a tetanus booster, and the other was a new one out for meningitis. I was told that my arm would hurt and I'd have a low fever, but there's also this dull pain in my lower back. Is this a normal effect? I think it's starting to go away along with the arm pain.

The neck (cervical spine) is composed of vertebrae which begin in the upper torso and end at the base of the skull. The bony vertebrae along with the ligaments (like thick rubber bands) provide stability to the spine. The muscles allow for support and motion.
What Causes Neck Pain?
Many patients seek orthopedic care for neck pain, because orthopedists are specifically trained in the workings of the musculoskeletal system, including the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of problems involving the muscles, bones, joints, ligaments and tendons. While some orthopedists confine their practices to specific areas of the musculoskeletal system, most treat a wide variety of diseases, injuries and other conditions, including neck pain.
In some cases, neck pain is caused by emotional stress. Most patients are treated successfully with rest, medication, immobilization, physical / massage therapy, exercise, activity modifications or a combination of these methods.
Massage therapy can include Swedish or Shiatsu massage. If you do not have access to a Certified Massage Therapist you can learn to use a variety of massagers to help ease the tension and aches in your muscles caused by stress. Click here to learn more about the beneficial effects of massage.
Neck Pain Diagnosis and Treatment
Very few patients require surgery to relieve neck pain. For the vast majority of patients, a combination of rest, medication, physical and/or massage therapy will relieve neck pain.
How neck pain is treated depends on what the diagnosis reveals.
For example, if pain is caused by inflammation as a result of stretching muscles and ligaments beyond their limits (sports, yard work, etc), your doctor may prescribe rest. Should your neck pain stem from an injury caused by a severe jolt or other "impact" accident, you may be also receive a neck collar for a specified period of time, as well as medication to reduce inflammation.
If medication is prescribed to reduce pain, it should be used only as directed and should not be taken for extended periods of time. In addition, remember that if your orthopedist prescribes rest, it is vital that you follow instructions carefully.
When neck pain persists or is chronic, your orthopedist may recommend a rehabilitation program that includes an exercise program and various types of physical therapy to help you relieve your pain and prevent it from coming back.
In some extreme cases you may be referred to an orthopedist.
An orthopedist is a medical doctor with extensive training in the diagnosis and non-surgical and surgical treatment of the musculoskeletal system, including bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves.
Surgery may be necessary to reduce pressure on the spinal cord or a nerve root when pain is caused by a herniated disk or bony narrowing of the spinal canal. Surgery may also be required following an injury, to stabilize the neck and minimize the possibility of paralysis such as when a fracture results in instability of the neck.
Determining the source of the pain is essential to recommend the right method of treatment and rehabilitation. Therefore a comprehensive examination is required to determine the cause of neck pain.
Your orthopedist will take a complete history of the difficulties you are having with your neck. He or she may ask you about other illnesses, any injury that occurred to your neck and any complaints you have associated with neck pain. Previous treatment for your neck condition will also be noted.
Next, your orthopedist will perform a physical examination. This examination may include evaluation of neck motion, neck tenderness, and the function of the nerves and muscles in your arms and legs.
X-ray studies often will be done to allow your orthopedist to look closely at the bones in your neck. These simple diagnostic techniques often help orthopedists to determine the cause of neck pain and to prescribe effective treatment.
Patients who require further evaluation may undergo one or more of the following examinations
:
MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). This non X-ray study allows an evaluation of the spinal cord and nerve roots.
CT (computed tomography). This specialized X-ray study allows careful evaluation of the bone and spinal canal.
Myelogram (injection of a dye or contrast material into the spinal canal). This specific X-ray study also allows careful evaluation of the spinal canal and nerve roots.
EMG (electromyogram). This test evaluates nerve and muscle function.
Your orthopedist may supplement your evaluation with blood tests, and, if necessary, will consult with other medical specialists.

Help answer the question about lower back sore
sore lower back immediately after ovulation?
has any one experienced in tense lower back lower back sore pain after ovulation, is this s sign of conception? I've never had this before and hope that it is a pregnancy. it's been only 7 days past and it's been sore ever since.
Millions of people in the US and in other parts of the world are affected by the herpes simplex virus that causes cold sores and other diseases as well. In fact, experts are of the opinion that the disease is so common that as many as 25% females are affected at least once in their lives. And in males, this is 20%. But the sad thing is, a huge section of that population believes that treatment for cold sores is not needed because the blisters tend to go away on their own. But the fact is, the blisters may return and cause more damage than just a scar on the skin. Thus, cold sore treatment is necessary.
There are a number of cold sore treatment options. But before going deeper into the subject, it is necessary to understand that a virus cannot be ever completely cured, and so, the virus that causes cold sores will stay within the body forever. Only the symptoms of cold sores can be eradicated with the proper treatment. So the sores will not hurt, burn lower back sore or itch anymore.
While selecting a cold sore treatment option do keep in mind that there are a few medications that may lead to a diarrohea like condition. So it is probably advisable to go for a diarrohea medicine along with the cold sore treatment. There are basically 2 types of treatments for cold sores. They are topical applications and pills. Most medicines try to challenge the virus in the body that is causing the damage by lowering the virus replication rate. And when this happens, the natural immunity of the body is strengthened so that it is able to fight the virus on its own.
Here the role of immunity is very important, particularly when the virus returns, because there are actually a few triggers that make the virus active again. So if the natural immunity of the body can be strengthened the triggers can be deactivated and so the replication rate of the virus can be lowered. So the chance and the number of all future outbreaks can be lowered significantly.
Here are a few simple tips that can control the virus and remove the symptoms quicker:
- Experts feel that stress can worsen the situation. Though it is difficult to reduce stress levels in these difficult times, but try to do so anyway.
- Keeping away from cold winds and sunlight also improves the condition.
- When going out, always use a sunscreen. Carry it along in the beach vacations and in the camping trips because these are the times when there is prolonged exposure to sunlight.
- Changing the diet is always a good idea. Go for a diet that has a lot of vitamin A, C, E and also zinc and iron.
Now there are specially formulated treatments for cold sores and genital herpes that are 100% natural, and have been produced from the highest quality pure natural essential oils that are extracted from plants. Medical studies have proven the effectiveness of such cold sore treatments.

In the treatment of migraines, a low level laser is an ideal choice for a chiropractor and naturopathic doctor. The cold laser, when touched on the head, has a pleasant sensation and warmth.
This cold low level laser is used by the chiropractor to quickly get rid of migraines with no harm or invasive procedures to the patient. The pain relief is usually quick and long lasting when using a scalar wave laser. In chiropractor office using this soft laser, the patient heals faster and can go back to their daily life, instead of spending days in healing without the assistance of cold lasers.
When a chiropractor uses a cold laser for healing of migraines, he or she is fully assured of the patients complete recovery. In the instances when a chiropractor decides to go only with the traditional methods, this adds healing time that could have been halved by using a cold low level laser.
By using a scalar wave laser, this assures fewer visits to the chiropractor and rapid healing of the patient. Most patients actually prefer the scalar lasers to the more traditional methods of manipulation and heat packs. Soft laser usage is also medically feasible for both doctor and patient.

I dont know what to do.
How To Cure Sciatica Nerve Pain - Learn How To Cure Sciatica Nerve Pain
It is the nerve that starts at the buttocks and runs down the back of the leg. It is a combination of multiple spinal nerves and is about an inch long in the buttocks. Generally, when people start complaining about pain in the sciatic nerve, it's not the sciatic nerve that created this pain, instead, it's a problem of the nerve being pinched when it leaves the spine.
Reasons for Sciatic Nerve Pain:
There are various causes that lead to sciatic nerve pain, but the major reasons that can lead to this type of pain are:
- Excessive pressure on the sciatic nerve: Sciatic nerve pain can be a result of unwanted pressure put on the body due to improper posture, strain in the muscles, pregnancy, overweight, nerve pain using a very soft mattress for sleeping purpose. It can also have excessive pressure on the sciatic nerve due to slip disc. Some cases of sciatic nerve pain have been recorded by due to the compression of the sciatic nerve by a tumor encircling the spinal cord in the lower back.
- Degenerative arthritis: It is also a common cause of sciatica. Degenerative arthritis also known as Osteoarthritis can be identified by certain specific characteristics like creation of bone spurs or a set of protruding bone which presses on the nerve roots. Older people sometimes may develop a medical condition called spinal stenosis, where the nerve is compressed due to narrowing of space in and around the spinal cord.
Sciatica's Symptoms and Complications:
The most important symptom of sciatica is that a pain in that runs down from the buttocks and unto the back of the leg and thighs. It not necessary that the pain stops there it may even continue down to the foot or can below the knee. The pain that one feels due sciatica has a variation nature: it can be sharp or dull, burning or shooting sensation, non-stop or may come in intervals. One of its properties is that the pain is felt on only one part of the body. Some complain about a acute or intense pain others complain about numbness or weakening in parts of the leg where it hurts the most. This can sometimes lead to serious neurological problems.
Sciatica Treatment and Prevention:
The sciatic nerve pain can be cured by treating the cause that lead to sciatica such as slip disc. Doctor's can prescribe painkillers, muscles relaxants, corticosteroids to reduce inflammation. Average amount of exercise should be considered if pain becomes minimal. Therapy sessions are advised to strengthen abdominal and back muscles once the symptoms have minimized.

Help answer the question about chronic pain
Is it better for chronic pain to start exercising and stop, or not exercising at all?
I just read an article on Yahoo that says exercise helps with chronic chronic pain pain. It also says stopping exercise will probably make the pain worse: http://health.yahoo.com/pain-management-2007/levy/86/got-pain-exercise-it-away/So my question is, would it be better to start exercising and have to stop later, or not start exercising at all and stay with the current low pain level?
Chronic pain affects millions of people worldwide. Chronic pain is different than acute pain. Chronic pain is pain that continues long after the original cause. Chronic pain also has a psychological component that affects every area of one’s life. The challenge of living with chronic pain can create depression, difficulty with family/friend relationships, loss of job, financial losses and a loss of self-worth.
During my counseling experiences with individuals living with chronic pain, I have discovered that there are key healthy attitudes that help someone learn how to cope and live with chronic pain. I teach persons’ with chronic pain how to adopt these attitudes and have had the pleasure of witnessing many reclaim their life again, in spite of chronic pain.
The following are three attitudes that CAN make a difference when living with chronic pain:
Optimism – It truly chronic pain does make a difference if you “see the glass half empty” or “half-full”. People that are optimists try to find the positive in all situations. I recently had someone tell me that after their injury, they were able to discover new hobbies because they could no longer do the same hobbies as prior to their injury. They discovered a hobby that eventually led to a new career. I know it is a challenge to seek the positive in every situation. However, I have seen relationships grow stronger because of pain. I have seen families rediscover what’s really important in their lives. I have seen people “slow down and smell the roses” because of their pain. Part of having an optimistic attitude is also believing that one can go on in spite of pain.
Determination - is another healthy attitude. Determination is an attitude that gives someone confidence to carry on. It is the attitude that says “I will not give up”; “I will not allow this pain to take over my life”. Determination allows one to persevere. It is about finding new ways of doing things and not giving up. Determination allows one to separate their core self-worth from their pain. Determination is about seeking and finding hope in any situation.
Commitment – is the attitude that says, “I am committed to my life and the lives of others”. I will not isolate myself because of my pain. I will allow others to help because it is their gift to me. Commitment is about dedicating one’s self to personal growth. It is using the experience of pain as a way to allow one’s self to grow spiritually, physically and emotionally. The commitment to others is about trusting in the relationship. It is a trust that creates a special bond in the relationship and determines the depth of the relationship. Living with pain is a great test of relationships.

Hate this part. Waiting to hear test results about nerve damage from an inguinal hernia repair operation. I don't want to be poked & prodded then told there's nothing that can be done..
in the end, it wasn't exactly that "there's nothing that can be done", but they stil aren't 100% sure what's causing the constant & unending pain. there is some fluid right in the muscle, it's just small. there is a very small chance that's causing it, but doc didn't really seemed convinced of that.
it's most likely nerves, which is what we went through last time. a nerve was damaged or is caught up in scar tissue.
they could operate to remove the fluid & scar tissue, but going in to do that could create damaged nerves. this could potentially place me in even worse constant pain. it could also weaken my abdominal wall, putting me at risk of another hernia.
he suggested i make an appointment for 3 months from now, and we'll re-asses, then continue on that pattern until i decide either way.
he also wants me to talk to my family doctor about it, and my family.
it's a pretty big decision that can potentially alter my life. it isn't amputation or cancer or anything, but chronic pain is still a horrible thing to deal with. there is nothing i can do to ease it, no medication, even changing my position doesn't alleviate it.
i have no idea what to do and it's scary.

Help answer the question about back treatment

Addiction is a very serious and a progressive disease. It needs to be attended to as soon as detected, or else it can become very dangerous. If someone in your family is detected of addiction of any substance, getting him the best available treatment is the most important. You will find a number of different programs for addiction treatment in Wisconsin, some specializing in drug treatment, some in alcohol treatment.
Depending upon the level of the patient's addiction and the type of his addiction, you must choose the correct treatment program. But choosing a qualified program from the many available options for addiction treatment in Wisconsin is very important. Choosing an unqualified program is as bad as giving no addiction treatment to your loved one. Let us study in brief why it is necessary to choose a program which is qualified over others.
But first let us see what a qualified treatment program is. Here is a look at what a program on addiction treatment in Wisconsin entails.
A qualified treatment program is the program which is affiliated with the state authorities and that the program meets the criteria provided by the state health authorities Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the National Institute of Drug Abuse and the National Clearinghouse. These are the common criteria used all over the United Nations. The different states have the right to add certain criteria depending on the different situations in their state but the basic criteria remains the same nationally. A list of the qualified treatment programs for addiction treatment back treatment is available on the federal substance abuse websites.
One finds a lot of other treatments programs which are based on spirituality and faith based healing and even religious programs for abuse treatment in Wisconsin which are not recognized by the state as a qualified treatment. And hence a person cannot enjoy the benefits the state provides to all the qualified treatment programs in Wisconsin.
The Benefits of a Qualified Treatment Program in Wisconsin:
1. Low affordable cost:
The qualified treatment programs are mostly conducted in the treatment centers which are affiliated by the state. Hence most of the treatment centers receive funding from the state. Thus a qualified treatment program will be very cost effective here and would be much more affordable.
2. Sense of security:
A qualification by the state for a treatment program for addiction treatment means more value. This means the people of Wisconsin or any nation are able to trust the treatment and bring their loved ones who are addicted to a substance without worrying about the quality of the treatment centers. An addiction treatment in Wisconsin is recognized as a qualified program after it has been approved by medical experts and professionals.
3. Benefits from Insurance companies:
The insurance companies also cover treatments only for a qualified addiction treatment in Wisconsin. As the programs are affiliated to the state, the insurance companies trust them and are assured that the treatment centers are will be strict in their admission procedures. Thus if you choose a qualified treatment program in this state, you can be sure of your claims being settled by the insurance company. However, the same cannot be said for the unqualified treatment programs.
The major difficulty:
With the number of advantages, there is also a disadvantage with choosing a qualified treatment program. As the addiction treatments are gaining more awareness and benefits from the state authorities, the number of families wanting to put their loved ones into a qualified treatment program are also on a high. Thus one may find it difficult to admit an addicted person in the desired treatment centers as they will have a long waiting list for patients. These waiting lists can go on from several weeks to several months, differing in each treatment centers. This can be frustrating.
On the other hand, with the amount of increasing patient, the professionals may find it a bit taxing to keep individual tabs on everyone. With the long waiting list, the treatment centers may also reduce the individual time given to relax after the detoxification treatment. There is always a possibility of the quality of the doctor's input going down with the increasing work load.
Here, those people who sort external help, that is the help of an interventionist for the smooth sailing of their entire treatment programs, have a little advantage. These intervention professionals have a partnership deals amongst them. Due to this, the treatment centre reserves some quota of seats for patients who come to the centre through the interventionists.

Help answer the question about back spasms
Would my Physician help me with my back spasms and maybe prescribe me something for them?
I back spasms have bad back spasms a few times a week and very painful. I want to go see someone about it and maybe get some muscle relaxers.I am going to see my physician...will he be able to help me?
Back Pain Muscle Spasms are no fun. Back Pain is common cause of worry for many people. But it may be occurring because of any type injury to the back. In case of such injury the body mechanism attempts to protect the back from injury. This protective response is not voluntary. The muscle spasm means the muscle fibers are contracted as a reaction to the injury or inflammation.
Back pain muscle spasms give indication of the damage to the vertebrae, discs or ligaments. The cause of muscle spasms can be sudden injury to spinal cord or the muscles and tissue around it. If there is any irritation or nerve compression as a result of any other problem, muscle spasm may occur.
The muscle spasms may give acute pain around the area of injury. The contracted muscles result in tremendous muscle tightening. This normally happens in cycles and it lasts for few seconds or minutes. After a particular activity this symptoms are seen. They are reduced after some time of rest.
The back spasms back pain muscle spasms are treated in a traditional way assuming there is no serious injury to the spinal cord and vertebrae. It is always advised to contact your doctor immediately to get a relief from the pains. You may experience the changes in the bowl and bladder movement. You may feel unstable while walking. Sometimes numbness and
Pain is faced in arms and legs. You may have to struggle the pain while lying down and you night may be sleepless. Fever and weight loss is also experienced by some people.
If you are facing any of these problems with the back pain then it is better to consult the specialist. If you are facing only back pain because of muscle spasms, you can do something on your own and the pain is reduced and inflammation is also reduced.
It is difficult but definitely helpful to keep your routine activities going on. You may need to do it at a slower pace. If any particular activity results in increasing pains then you should avoid it. Just resting in bed will not help much. On the other hand light activity encourages the faster recovery.
Ice helps to prevent inflammation. The ice packed in cloth can be applied to the inflamed area for 10 to 20 minutes at a time. This can be repeated several times in a day. Though ice helps to reduce swelling, it may give numbness to tissues if applied for more than 20 minutes at a time. So take care of not to extend it above 20 minutes. Extra time may result in more tightening of muscles and inflamed tissues.
Once the ice application is done, you can use hot water application after first three days. It helps to reduce tightening muscles once the inflammation is gone. Heat should be made moist rather than dry one. You can use heating pad or hot water shower or even Jacuzzi.
Massage therapy is the helpful to improve the blood circulation. It can give relief from stress.
After recovery from the back pain muscle spasms stretches are advised which is useful to improve the flexibility.
