This back stretcher is a nice concept, but unfortunately it didn’t work for me. It could be because my back is quite bad and I have scoliosis. I was hoping it would make a difference.

Help answer the question about lower back injuries symptoms
Strange pain in ovaries/abdomen?
I had an accident a couple years ago resulting in a back injury and since then have had lower back pain but now I am wondering if that pain is ovary related. Lately I have been feeling lower back injuries symptoms a kind of bubbly feeling in my ovary area, like when you get a small leg cramp and your muscle twitches, thats exactly what it feels like. It's not painful but I notice it and once it passes it feels almost like gas. Other times it feels like something is kicking me but from the inside, and I'm pretty sure I'm not pregnant. I am on birth control, have regular periods, no other strange symptoms. What could this be?
Spinal Cord Injury Treatment in India
Spinal Cord Injury – Stem Cell Treatment
In 1995, actor Christopher Reeve fell off a horse and severely damaged his spinal cord, leaving him paralyzed from the neck down. From then until his death in 2004, the silver screen Superman became the most famous face of spinal cord injury.
Most spinal cord injury causes permanent disability or loss of movement (paralysis) and sensation below the site of the injury. Paralysis that involves the majority of the body, including the arms and legs, is called quadriplegia or tetraplegia. When a spinal cord injury affects only the lower body, the condition is called paraplegia...
Symptoms
Spinal cord injury symptoms depend on two factors:
- The location of the injury : - In general, injuries that are higher in your spinal cord produce more paralysis. For example, a spinal cord injury at the neck level may cause paralysis in both arms and legs and make it impossible to breathe without a respirator, while a lower injury may affect only your legs and lower parts of your body...
- The severity of the injury : - Spinal cord injuries are classified as partial or complete, depending on how much of the cord width is damaged...
Spinal cord injuries of any kind may result in one or more of the following signs and symptoms : -
- Pain or an intense stinging sensation caused by damage to the nerve fibers in your spinal cord
- Loss of lower back injuries symptoms movement
- Loss of sensation, including the ability to feel heat, cold and touch
- Loss of bowel or bladder control

Spinal cord injuries
Paralysis of the lower half of the body is called paraplegia. Paralysis of both arms and legs is called quadriplegia...
Causes
1. Your brain and central nervous system
Together, your spinal cord and your brain make up your central nervous system, which controls most of the functions of your body. Your spinal cord runs approximately 15 to 17 inches from the base of your brain to your waist and is composed of long nerve fibers that carry messages to and from your brain...
2. Injury may be traumatic or nontraumatic
A traumatic spinal cord injury may stem from a sudden, traumatic blow to your spine that fractures, dislocates, crushes or compresses one or more of your vertebrae. It may also result from a gunshot or knife wound that penetrates and cuts your spinal cord. Additional damage usually occurs over days or weeks because of bleeding, swelling, inflammation and fluid accumulation in and around your spinal cord...
Common causes of spinal cord injury
The most common causes of spinal cord injury in the United States are : -
- Motor vehicle accidents : - Auto and motorcycle accidents are the leading cause of spinal cord injuries, accounting for almost 50 percent of new spinal cord injuries each year.
- Acts of violence : - About 15 percent of spinal cord injuries result from violent encounters, often involving gunshot and knife wounds.
- Falls : - Spinal cord injury after age 65 is most often caused by a fall. Overall, falls make up approximately 22 percent of spinal cord injuries.
- Sports and recreation injuries : - Athletic activities such as impact sports and diving in shallow water cause about 8 percent of spinal cord injuries.

Help answer the question about back pain nerve
Is it possible to get a pinched nerve (causing back pain)...as a result of lifting weights?
I have a pinched nerve (my back hurts like hell)...my doctor is speculating that my weight lifting is perhaps too strenuous and is the cause of it.....is that possible?
The pain caused by a herniated disc is one of the most debilitating and excruciating experiences a person can endure. Consequently, the search for herniated disc pain relief is the primary concern for sufferers of this condition.
This condition is occurs when the discs in between backbone vertebrae undergo tearing that causes the inner gel of the disc to bulge out or be herniated. The bulging gel then pinches on the spinal cord or a nerve resulting in very painful symptoms.
There are over 30 treatments known for the relief of this kind of pain which can be categorised broadly into surgical and non-invasive methods.
A series of back surgeries are available for providing herniated disc pain relief. The doctor will recommend the best procedure depending on the type of affliction you have. Keep in mind that surgical methods are not always necessary, do not always cure this ailment and may even cause worse symptoms than before.
Various types of oral medication are also available for this ailment. They don't cure the patient of the pain but work to treat symptoms including nerve pain and inflammation, as well as side effects such as sleeplessness. Take note that prolonged use of medication may cause addiction, liver dysfunction and digestive problems such as constipation.
Steroid injections are another remedy for pain relief. The steroids are injected directly into the back pain nerve tissue and are usually prescribed together with oral medications. However, this treatment should not be administered more than twice a year because of the risk of damage to the cartilages.
Fortunately for sufferers today other options exist for natural pain management that are just as effective – if not more – than surgery and pharmaceutical pills. For example, there are herbal remedies in a gel form that can be applied onto the affected area. These work to reduce inflammation, painful nerves and tissue swelling. Should you opt for this method, ensure that you seek the advice of a registered alternative medical healer.
Ice packs are another therapy for pain relief which are recommended over heat therapy. Ice helps to reduce the inflammation and swelling around the pinched nerve. The key thing here is to repeat the ice pack treatment regularly, preferably every hour. You will start to experiencing relief after a few hours and distinct improvement after a couple of days. Heat treatment, on the other hand, speeds up blood flow to the affected area causing more swelling and additional painful symptoms.
Bouncing on a gym therapy ball is another ‘do-it-at-home' way of delivering herniated disc pain relief. You simply bounce gently on the ball for up to 5 minutes. The bouncing aids the supply of blood and nutrients to the disc gel providing pain relief and faster healing.
Controlled exercise and massage therapies are also alternative methods of herniated disc pain relief. Seek out a professional trainer or a trained massage therapist who is familiar with the right therapies for this kind of condition. Again, being consistent in your exercise and training program is important for continued healing.
Quite often discs will heal on their own within a few weeks or months. So before you jump to steroids and surgery, try out the natural pain management options first.
If you have tried both conventional medical treatment and alternative treatments as well and the pain is only getting worse and unmanageable, you may be one of the people who have no choice but to opt for surgery. Only you know how much pain you are in and the decision is yours. If you decide on surgery be sure and try to find a doctor who can perform one of the less invasive type surgeries that are availible today. They carry less chances of complications and a much faster recovery time.
Our site contains a world of information on herniated discs, their causes and their cures. If you want to stay up to date and informed on this subject, please feel free to visit.

I bought this for hubby who has cold feet, unfortunately, it does not fit him. While it’s a nice product and works effectively, it was not big enough to fit a man’s feet. I don’t even know where this item is in my house, if it had fitted, it would’ve been used regularly, too bad. Two stars off for not mentioning how small it is, making it useless in my household and a waste of $.

Help answer the question about backpain
Advice on what to do about backpain in pregnancy?
I woke up this morning, and had some excruciating back pain, and I think mostly backpain it's due to the way I slept. I mean lower back pain, but it's not like making me double over or anything. Any advice on how to help me get it to go away? I did take two of my tylenol this morning, and it seems to be slightly helping, but any other advice?
The sciatic nerve starts off at the base of your spine and runs through your buttocks and then down the leg ending in both feet. It is the longest and fattest nerve in the human body and there are several things that can easily put pressure on it which can lead to severe lower back pain and leg pain.
Sometimes it is caused by just sitting in an uncomfortable chair or even lying in bed. Stress can result in muscle tightness and this can lead to pressure on the sciatic nerve. When it hurts, it is called sciatica.
Lower back pain is the number one condition that is presented to me at my Physiotherapy clinic. It will affect up to 80% of us at some stage in our lives - and it is 80% of my daily work.
How this undeniably vague advice would play out for each individual in pain... is nearly anyone's guess. Each individual's perception of soft or firm would be different.
Back Pain Causes
If you are washing your clothes the old-fashioned way, you've probably experience upper back pain most of the time. The pain starts from the shoulder blade and then spreads to the lung area. Being exposed to too much heat and suddenly cooling yourself in front of an air conditioner is another caused to have an aching back. Laborer backpain and cargo men also experience extreme pain in the upper back area because of too much strain place on it. A sweat drenched back that has been left to dry is another caused that will trigger back pain.
The problem is that often people forget about the problem once the pain has gone and do nothing to make sure it doesn't come back again. The real treatment of sciatica should be done once you are pain free again to try and prevent the horrible twangs of shooting pain coming back. Massages and gentle stretching are all good treatments to help the sufferer keep this nasty condition at bay.
Back Pain Effects
For many people, the rush of daily life, with its problems, worries and external stimuli, can over-stimulate the brain to the extent that it can all seem too much for them. They feel anxious and overwhelmed, and wish that they could just go into a quiet corner to get away from it all. Most people have felt like that at some time, but the demands of life do not allow them that luxury. They just have to bear it and get on with life.
Some symptoms of a Tendon Rupture include: Inability to move, Bruising in the affected area, popping or snapping sound in the tendon area, severe pain or swelling in the tendon area.
Back Pain Control
Finally, in some instances one of the common causes of lower back pain is disease. While many diseases cannot be avoided per se. However, lower back pain can be reduced and eliminated when prompt medical attention is obtained. Therefore, if you start to feel lower back pain that does not seem to abate, you are well served by seeking medical attention immediately.
Pain is an indicator of the mind that there’s a problem that needs attention. It serves an important function for the body and alerts you to areas needing attention. Some pain, however, continues even though the person can do nothing about the situation. In these cases, finding a way to relieve the pain and interrupt the signal is important. It allows the patient to continue to function even when pain might otherwise incapacitate them. More physicians today find that pain management is easier using alternatives like hypnosis, rather than the use of drugs. Frequently those taking pain medication must continually increase dosages to receive the same relief that the medication originally gave. Often the medications interfere with the normal functioning of the person in pain. Occasionally the drowsiness it creates is as incapacitating as the pain originally was.

Help answer the question about back ache
Have terrible back ache but it always hurts where i am at work?
hi, i have a terrible back ache and it always occurs back ache at work. I saw the doctor and he gave me Mobic which is anti-inflammatory/pain but it is not helping. it did help a little bit but I am still uncomfortable. i tried the dr. scholl insol for my shoes with no luck?? any advice??
When most people get home from a long day they generally take their shoes off and get their feet up. At the end of the day most people will find that their shoes feel snugger than they did when they put them on. Their feet feel hot and tired. What they are looking for is some relief for their aching feet. Gravity is responsible for all of this aching and discomfort. Even people who sit all day find that the fluids and blood in the body will pool in their legs and feet making them swollen and painful. This effect is increased for people who stand or walk all day long. It is because of this that podiatrists recommend you shop for new shoes in the later part of the day when your feet are swollen.
There are many jobs that aggravate your feet during the day. Traffic police, teachers, salespeople, nurses, postal workers and anyone who is standing and walking during the course of their job will find that their feet ache at the end of the day. People who dance and participate in athletic activities will also find that their feet take a beating and produce soreness and aching at the end of the day. Whether it is because of a job or your activities, most people will suffer from tired aching feet at the end of the day. They will want to find the most effective and back ache quick remedy to relieve their sore foot.
The quickest way to find some relief is to sit in a comfortable chair and put your feet up. They should be elevated at least as high as your hips. Take your shoes off and any socks or stockings that you are wearing that are keeping your circulation bound. You are trying to use gravity now to relieve some of the damage that it caused earlier. You should keep your feet elevated for at least thirty minutes to give the swelling a chance to go down. While you have your feet up you should wiggle your toes and point your feet to get rid of any cramping that may be occurring in your aching feet. This also helps the pooled fluids move out of your foot. You can put your feet up and watch the news on television and still be taking care of your tired sore feet at the same time.
Once the swelling has gone down you should fill a tub with warm comfortable water. There are footbaths available now that have a whirlpool function. If you really want to pamper your feet, add some Epsom salts or bath salts to the water. You should soak your sore feet for at least thirty minutes.
Once you have finished soaking your feet you should lift them out of the water one at a time and scrub them with a gentle soap and bath brush. Wash your feet carefully between the toes and all around. Rinse the soap off completely and pat the foot dry with a towel. This is a good time to cut your toenails or treat the cuticles. They will be nice and soft from the soaking. Now you should rub in a good quality foot lotion into the muscles of your feet. While you are rubbing your feet make sure that you pay particular attention to the balls and heels of your feet as well as your ankles and arches. Take the time to work on each toe and you will feel the ache and tension just float away from your feet.
For the best care of your feet you should pay attention to your shoes. You should have at least two pair of shoes that fit you well and are comfortable enough to wear to work. You should make sure you alternate between the shoes so that they have a good amount of time to dry out in between wearing. You can reduce the odor on your feet and shoes by wearing socks that are absorbent and using a foot spray deodorant. These sprays are perfect for any time that you want a little quick relief from your sore aching feet.
At the end of your busy day, take a little time to give yourself the special treatment that your sore feet and legs need. You worked hard all day to get those aching feet, you deserve this special treat.

Help answer the question about sciatica causes
Can Sciatica cause knee pain?
I have very bad Sciatica and recently started having very sciatica causes bad pain on the underneath part of my knee. I recently retired and after 40 years of working I am unable to enjoy my retirement with the pain. Can Sciatica cause this knee pain?
Sciatica (often misspelled as "syatica" or "psyatica") is pain that results from irritation of one of the sciatic nerves (one on the right and one on the left), and includes pain in the hip and buttock area that may extend partially or all the way down the back of the leg to the foot. The sciatic nerves start out as smaller nerve roots that branch off from the lower part of the spine. The component nerve roots come together in the pelvis to form the sciatic nerves. Each sciatic nerve then extends down the back of each thigh and divides into two parts below the knee and the two halves continue down the lower leg to the foot.
The sciatic nerve has a definite pain pattern to it. It is formed by five nerve roots (small nerves exiting the spinal column) from the lower spine. Two nerve roots from the last two Lumbar joints and first three of the sacrum nerve roots (the wedge shaped bone at the base of your spine). These nerve roots combine to form the sciatic nerve.
Sciatica can be a debilitating sciatica causes condition where movement and day to day life is painful. The pain radiates down the leg to the foot if severe, it creates a sickening type pain that affects you emotionally as much as it does physically. Although most of you will have heard the horror stories of how sciatica is caused by disc injuries, spinal stenosis or other major lower back pain issues.
Another thing that can cause sciatic nerve damage is occupations such as truck driving, where you are sitting for long periods of time, and being bounced around at the same time, which puts pressure and stress on the sciatic nerve. Sciatic can also be caused by a herniated lumbar disc, in which case, merely performing sciatica stretches won't help too much, and can in fact in up harming your sciatic nerve further.
Pain can be short-term and sharp, meaning acute; or, it may be dull, throbbing and last a long time, as in chronic pain. Back pain and sciatic nerve pain may also be a combination of sensations, as in acute/chronic back pain or dull/chronic sciatic nerve pain. Everyone who has experienced back pain and sciatica knows there are as many forms and levels of pain as there are days in the year, probably more!
The symptoms of true sciatica are very similar to piriformis syndrome. Both cause pain, tingling, burning, "electrical shock" sensations, and/or numbness down the leg, often all the way to the foot. In addition, both sciatica and piriformis syndrome tend to be at least partially related to biomechanical functional problems in the joints of the back and pelvis and they may even be present simultaneously in the same person, so it an be difficult to tell them apart.
The best way to ease tension off the Piriformis muscle is to both stretch the muscle and to use Acupressure to reduce overall muscle tension. Stretching the muscle involves you lying on your back and pulling your knee towards your opposite shoulder. This stretches the Piriformis muscle; if you don't feel tightness in your buttock then you need to use a different stretch.

I had constant lower back pain. The closest relief I found was everyday, sometimes twice per day, use of the Teeter. I thought that enough was great. I then bought the Spine-Worx because I am always on the lookout for help with lower back aid. Since the first 15 minute session, my back felt normal with no pain. It must have straightened my spine out or something. It sounds too simple but something helped me incredibly. I use it about once per week but can barely remember what lower back pain feels like.

I just hate when they put up a picture of something completely different. Instead of saying “I love you” like we wanted, it has the heart’s name on it. Lame! Why wouldn’t you show that in the picture?
Help answer the question about solutions for back pains
solution for back pain?
my back prevents me from solutions for back pains getting a full nights sleep. what can i do at night to prevent waking up early? thanks for your help
Many of us suffer on a daily basis from chronic or acute back pain, and it can become a depressing condition. The pain affects our lives on a daily basis, not just through physical experience of the sensation, but through its debilitating effect on our ability to enjoy and take part in life as it presents itself to us and our subsequent loss of confidence. Mainstream medicine presents us with a poisoned chalice- on the one hand it represents a reliable if not complete solution to alleviate some of our symptoms, and on the other hand it gives us undesirable side effects and a life, and wallet, tied to the ongoing ingestion of pills and tablets.
There are not very many of us who completely buy into many of the alternative and ‘new age’ treatments without question, and we would be foolish to do so. However, we would be equally foolish to dismiss them all out of hand and potentially throw the baby out with the bath water.
So which of these treatments are worth our time solutions for back pains and money? There is no simple answer to this question. Every alternative therapy has its fans, and they are every one of them getting benefits from it significant enough for them to continue to put their own time and money in to it. It is simply a matter of trying several things until you find what works best for you.
But which treatments deserve our attention first. First of all, take a realistic look at what is involved in the treatment and decide whether or not you are going to be able to give it a proper go. If you think you are unlikely to complete more than one or two yoga sessions, then it’s probably not for you. Exercise is an excellent treatment for both body and mind and many practitioners run classes sympathetic to those with back problems.
Magnetic therapy, or magnotherapy, has made some huge advancements in recent years and some, but not all, magnetic bracelets have produced some very impressive results in clinical trials. Also, unlike exercise programs, it does not require any of your time or commitment other than to wear a magnetic bracelet on your wrist. There is no evidence to suggest that placing pads directly on the part of the body that is causing the pain gives any additional benefits. I have included a link to a very informative site below.
Mental exercise such as hypnotherapy and meditation has also been shown to have positive results. Much of the way in which we deal with the pain we experience can be effectively managed in this way. Acupuncture is a famous and controversial treatment, but has always maintained a strong and loyal fan base. Other treatments such as raiki and shia-tsu are also worth a try, especially since you should feel some benefit after just one or two sessions.
Spinal manipulation treatments (chiropractic and osteopathy) have now become almost mainstream medicine, and certainly seem to be a reasonably effective treatment for many people. However, ongoing and frequent treatment can become costly for many people.

Help answer the question about sciatica
could sciatica excuse me from college gym class requirements?
I've been told I have sciatica, but nobody knows what is causing it. It's very erratic in that the pain can start at any sciatica time from the simplest movement then be gone just as suddenly. So I can't say physical activity is a definite cause, but it does usually act up after I walk any extended distance. I'm not really sure if a gym class would be good for this, and I'm not really sure what the process is to get excused from the requirements is or even if I could be. What should I do?
Causes of sciatica can stem from several things. Spinal disc herniation is one of them. This occurs when the soft center of a spongiform ring of cartilage between spinal vertebrae bulges out. This effectively tears the tougher outer ring. The nerve is no longer protected and gets compressed. A herniated disc occurs usually from some rotational movement. Students with spinal disc herniation must be more cautious than others with any poses involving rotation of the spine.
Sciatica can set in during late pregnancy in some women due to the uterus pressing on the sciatic nerve. Women who already have sciatica before getting pregnant will suffer an increase in symptoms during their pregnancy.
For anyone with sciatica and especially pregnant women, it is important to keep a slight bend in the knee during any forward fold. As mentioned previously, it may be best to avoid these types of poses. If the student is comfortable doing these poses, make sure they are modified to avoid further pressure on the sciatic nerve roots.
Poses suggested for students with sciatica are the cat-cow pose and pelvic rocks. Have students' alternate arm and leg raises while focusing on breathing. These poses and the pelvic rocks can be done several times a day to alleviate symptoms.
Yoga has many poses (asanas). With proper guidance asanas can relieve pain. The pigeon pose helps to open sciatica the hips and stretch the muscle in the gluteal region, the piriformis muscle. Both the locust pose and the cobra pose effective stretch the sciatic area, improving circulation and lifting pressure.
All students should be continuously encouraged to listen to their bodies. This is even more essential for students with sciatica. Remember to make sure that they only push each pose as deep as it comfortable for them. Yoga students with free range of movement are able to push their limits.
Sciatica sufferers, however, must take care not to further damage their backs or cause additional pain. Remind students to continue to regularly practice their yoga poses even after pain is gone. Regular yoga exercises maintain health all around for a higher quality of life.
More and more people are seeking out yoga for relief from their pain and ailments. Yoga has become a real option to the doubting public. This will result in yoga instructors seeing more students, in their classes, with disorders, such as sciatica.
Sciatica is the name of a class of symptoms, which result from compression of the nerve roots of the sciatic nerve, or the sciatic nerve itself. The symptoms that result from this compression are most often pain, numbness, or tingling. These symptoms usually occur in the back, legs, and buttocks, but can appear elsewhere in the body.
Other symptoms can include weakness in these muscles and problems with control and coordination. More often, than not, the symptoms occur on just one side of the body.
It is important to remember that sciatica is just the name for the symptoms. The causes can be more complex. As a yoga instructor, you must get the whole story, from your student, with sciatica. When you know the cause of their sciatica, you can more accurately instruct them about which yoga poses will best benefit them.
Due to the delicate nature of the nerves in the lower part of the spine, yoga poses must be done carefully and correctly. Certain asanas (Yoga postures), which include straight-leg forward bends, can often aggravate sciatica and should be avoided. However, any asana can be modified for the specific needs of the student. Forward folds can easily be modified, by allowing the knees to bend.
Encourage students, with sciatica, to be patient and steady with their yoga practice. The areas around the sciatic nerve, and nerve roots, must be strengthened and stabilized.
Through specific sequences of poses, and moving properly between poses, circulation is improved in the pelvic region. Simultaneously, the muscles are strengthened. This approach will effectively begin to relieve the sciatica symptoms, resulting in less pain and freer movement.
